Indonesia ~ Threatened Bird Species
The Siau Scops Owl (Otus siaoensis), is a critically endangered owl and may be extinct. They live in Siau Island, north of Sulawesi, Indonesia and are (were) forest dwellers.
The Flores Hawk Eagle (Nisaetus floris), is a fairly large, up to 30 - 31 inch long, raptor in the family Accipitridae. An Indonesian endemic, the Flores Hawk Eagle is distributed in forests of Flores, Lombok and Sumbawa in the Lesser Sundas.
The Elegant Sunbird (Aethopyga duyvenbodei), an Indonesian endemic distributed to the island of Sangihe, north of Sulawesi. It is found and locally common in the forests and plantations near Mount Sahendaruman in southern Sangihe.
The Invisible Rail (Habroptila wallacii), is a flightless species of bird in the family Rallidae, endemic only to the island of Halmahera, in North Maluku, Indonesia, especially its swamp forests, wetlands, and forest edges. It is the world's smallest living flightless bird.

John James Audubon (Jean-Jacques Audubon) 1785 - 1851, was a French-American ornithologist, naturalist and painter. He was notable for his expansive studies to document all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations that depicted the birds in their natural habitats. His major work, a color-plate book entitled The Birds of America (1827 - 1839), is considered one of the finest ornithological works ever completed. Audubon identified 25 new species.
