John James Audubon (Jean-Jacques Audubon) 1785 - 1851, was a French-American ornithologist, naturalist and painter. He was notable for his expansive studies to document all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations that depicted the birds in their natural habitats. His major work, a color-plate book entitled The Birds of America (1827 - 1839), is considered one of the finest ornithological works ever completed. Audubon identified 25 new species.

Romania ~ Birds Stamp

The Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus), is found in lakes, rivers, deltas and estuaries. Compared to the Great White Pelican, the Dalmatian is not as tied to lowland areas and will nest in suitable wetlands at many elevations.

The Chinese Egret (Egretta eulophotes) breeds on small islands of the coasts of far eastern Russia, North Korea, South Korea and mainland China.It is also a non-breeding passage migrant in Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei.

The Crested Ibis (Nipponia nippon), at one time was widespread in Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan and Russia. It has now disappeared from most of its former range. The last wild Crested Ibis in Japan died in 2013, with the remaining wild population found only in Shaanxi province of China until reintroduction of captive bred birds back into Japan in 2008. They were previously though to be extinct in China too, until 1981 when only seven ibises were seen in Shaanxi, China.
The Brown Eared Pheasant (Crossoptilon mantchuricum), it is listed on Appendix I of CITES.
Red-crowned Crane (Grus japonensis), also called the Japanese Crane or Manchurian Crane, it is known as a symbol of luck, longevity and fidelity.
